Description

The U.S. Naval Undersea Museum in nearby Keyport is the place to learn about the Navy’s undersea operations, technology, combat, research, and salvage — and best of all, admission and parking are completely free. One of the most unique and underrated day-trip destinations in the Pacific Northwest, the museum sits on the shores of Liberty Bay just a short drive south of Poulsbo and draws visitors of all ages with its remarkable collection of undersea artifacts and interactive exhibits. Step inside a submarine control room, learn how Navy-trained dolphins protect sailors, and explore undersea weapons like torpedoes, mines, and missiles. The featured exhibit, Giving Voice to the Silent Service, offers a rare inside look at the submarine community — exploring how service shapes those who serve, from qualifying and deployments through retirement and beyond. Outdoor artifacts on the museum grounds let you connect with undersea history before you even walk through the door. Education programs are available for school groups and organizations by request, and the museum also hosts private events. A virtual tour is available online for those planning ahead. Open Wednesday–Monday 10am–4pm. Closed Tuesdays.
