VALISBLOT (Valentine’s Day Viking Style)

Valisblót (Valentine’s Viking Style) is a Poulsbo Sons of Norway Viking tradition that marks renewal, the changing of the seasons, and love.

The bonfire is a beacon of hope as the days grow longer, as proclaimed during the ceremony. It’s a celebration attributed to Odin’s youngest son, Vali. He is seen as a symbol of hope and renewal.

The Vikings take over Front Street and end at a bonfire on the waterfront at sunset. The roaring fire offers all present–Vikings and visitors–a time to look into the flames, see the embers rise, pause in their lives to reflect and appreciate our sweethearts, and feel the warmth of the glowing fire.
