The Curious Child is Poulsbo’s beloved independent toy and hobby shop, bringing wonder, imagination, and educational heart to Front Street since relocating from Bainbridge Island in 2016. Owner Dickson brings over 30 years of experience in the homeschool field to the store — she previously ran a similar shop called Creative Kid for 15 years in Alaska before moving to Washington and relaunching as The Curious Child. That deep educational background shows in the store’s carefully chosen inventory, which balances pure fun with purposeful play.

The shop carries an ever-evolving selection of toys, games, puzzles, books, art supplies, and plush for all ages — from classic wooden toys and baby items to science kits, card games, and board games. The Curious Child is also a destination for collectors and hobbyists, with a standout selection of collectibles including Star Wars action figures, Star Trek models, vintage comics, and supplies for tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. Educational supplies and homeschool curricula and workbooks round out the inventory, and Dickson is available for homeschool consultations and guidance for parents of children with special needs.
